Biological Vector Transmission

This post categorized under Vector and posted on October 3rd, 2019.

Biological transmission Indirect vector-borne transmission of a pathogen in which it undergoes biological changes within the vector before transmission to a new host. In epidemiology a disease vector is any agent which carries and transmits an infectious pathogen into another living organism most agents regarded as vectors are organisms such as intermediate parasites or microbes but it could be an inanimate medium of infection such as dust particles. Biological vectors such as mosquitoes and ticks may carry pathogens that can multiply within their bodies and be delivered to new hosts usually by biting. Mechanical vectors such as flies can pick up infectious agents on the outside of their bodies and transmit them through physical contact.

Biological vector an animal vector in whose body the pathogenic organism develops and multiplies before being transmitted to the next host. mechanical vector an animal vector not essential to the life cycle of the parasite. Biological transmission occurs when the vector uptakes the agent usually through a blood meal from an infected animal replicates andor develops it and then regurgitates the pathogen onto or injects it into a susceptible animal. Fleas ticks and mosquitoes are common biological vectors of disease. Vector transmission occurs when a living organism carries an infectious agent on its body (mechanical) or as an infection host itself (biological) to a new host. Vehicle transmission occurs when a substance such as soil water or air carries an infectious agent to a new host.

In this graphic Biology Professor (Twitter DrWhitneyHolden) teaches about disease vectors including how vector transmission differs from vehicle transmission and the distinctions between (c) Biological transmission When the disease-agent (parasite) undergoes multiplication or some developmental changes in carrier-host is known as biological transmission. Biological vectors are usually though not exclusively arthropods such as mosquitoes ticks fleas and lice. Vectors are often required in the life cycle of a pathogen. A common strategy used to control vector borne infectious diseases is to interrupt the life cycle of a pathogen by killing the vector. Best Answer Biological Vector An arthropod vector in whose body the infecting organism develops or multiplies before becoming infective to the recipient individual. Mechanical Vector An arthropod vector which transmits an infective organism from one host to another but which is not essential to the life
